Autism Evaluations

Autism is a type of neurodiversity that develops in childhood as a combination of genetic and environmental factors, but sometimes it goes unnoticed until adulthood. Autism comes with a highly diverse set of strengths and challenges. For example, an autistic individual may show remarkable persistence and focus, a high aptitude for recognizing patterns, and great attention to detail. On the other hand, they may feel overwhelmed by the world around them, struggle with social interactions, and experience depression or anxiety trying to adapt to a world that wasn’t exactly designed with them in mind. With testing, we can gain clarity on what you or your child’s specific strengths and challenges are.

I use the ADOS-2, which is the gold standard for autism assessment and many times is required to be eligible for autism services. If an autism diagnosis is warranted, know that there are a lot of different opinions on what’s best regarding “next steps” for treatment. I will help you understand these options and find the right path forward for you and your family.

Autism assessments using the ADOS-2 are only offered in-person at my office in Richmond, Virginia (because the test requires it). An alternative testing battery is offered for virtual testing. The cost for an autism evaluation ranges from $1500-$3000. I am out-of-network with insurance companies, but I can provide you with a superbill so that you may seek reimbursement directly.
