LSAT, Bar Exam, MPRE, MCAT, and USMLE Accommodations Evaluations for New York
I'm Dr. Erica Hurley, a licensed clinical psychologist providing comprehensive psychological evaluations for LSAT, Bar Exam, MPRE, MCAT, and USMLE accommodations. I'm based in Richmond, Virginia and licensed to practice in New York, and I work with law students at schools including NYU, Columbia, Fordham, Cardozo, and Brooklyn Law, and medical students at institutions including NYU Grossman, Columbia, Weill Cornell, and Mount Sinai. Evaluations for New York clients are conducted virtually in most cases. In-person testing is also available for clients who prefer to travel to my Richmond office.
Who Seeks High-Stakes Accommodations Evaluations in New York?
New York is home to some of the most competitive law schools and medical schools in the country, and the students I work with here tend to be high-functioning and academically accomplished. Many have succeeded in demanding environments by working harder and preparing more thoroughly than their peers.
But high-stakes exams like the LSAT, Bar Exam, MPRE, MCAT, and USMLE operate under conditions that make those strategies harder to apply. Strict time limits, sustained cognitive load, and no room for the compensatory habits that have worked before. Many of my New York clients have never been formally evaluated, not because they don't have real challenges, but because they were smart enough to get this far without documentation.
I work with:
Law students preparing for the LSAT, UBE, or New York Law Exam
Pre-med and medical students preparing for the MCAT or USMLE Step exams
Professionals seeking documentation for licensing exam accommodations
High-achieving adults seeking a first evaluation after years of compensating without support
LSAT Accommodations Evaluations | New York
If you're preparing for the LSAT and considering testing accommodations, the evaluation process usually takes several weeks from intake to final report. LSAC requires that documentation be submitted by your exam's registration deadline, so I recommend beginning at least 2 to 3 months before your target test date.
My LSAT evaluations are comprehensive neuropsychological assessments designed to meet LSAC documentation standards. They go beyond confirming a diagnosis. They document how your specific cognitive profile interacts with the demands of the LSAT, including timed reading comprehension, logical reasoning under pressure, and sustained attention over a multi-hour exam.
For New York clients, intake, testing, and feedback can typically all be completed virtually. In-person testing at my Richmond, Virginia office is also available if preferred. Learn more about LSAT accommodations evaluations here.
Bar Exam Accommodations Evaluations | New York
New York's path to bar admission has more moving parts than most states. Applicants must pass both the Uniform Bar Examination (UBE), administered twice a year, and the separate New York Law Exam (NYLE), administered three times a year. Accommodations for one exam do not carry over to the other, so applicants requesting accommodations for both must submit two separate applications on two separate timelines.
If you're transferring a passing UBE score from another jurisdiction rather than sitting for the UBE in New York, you'll typically only need to go through the accommodations process for the NYLE.
Bar exam evaluations receive a higher level of scrutiny than most other high-stakes exam documentation, and New York's Board of Law Examiners applies its own detailed documentation standards that don't always align with what other states or testing organizations require. My reports are written to be defensible under bar examiner review and tailored to New York's specific requirements. Learn more about Bar Exam accommodations evaluations here.
MPRE Accommodations Evaluations | New York
The MPRE is a separate licensing requirement from the Bar Exam, and accommodations are handled independently through NCBE. Many law students don't realize this until they're already deep in bar prep, and by then, deadlines are close. If you've already completed a comprehensive evaluation for LSAT or Bar Exam accommodations, that documentation may be sufficient for your MPRE request. If not, I can help you determine what's needed and whether a new or updated evaluation makes sense.
Evaluations for New York clients are typically conducted virtually, with in-person testing available at my Richmond office if preferred.. Learn more about MPRE accommodations evaluations here.
MCAT Accommodations Evaluations | New York
The MCAT is offered multiple times between January and September, and the AAMC requires documentation to be submitted approximately 105 days before your intended test date. The AAMC applies some of the most rigorous review standards among high-stakes testing organizations. A diagnosis alone is rarely sufficient. Documentation must demonstrate a clear, evidence-based link between your cognitive profile and functional limitations under the specific demands of the MCAT.
My MCAT evaluations are designed to meet AAMC documentation requirements and clearly establish that connection. I'll help you determine whether a virtual or in-person format is the right fit during your free consultation. Learn more about MCAT accommodations evaluations here. USMLE Accommodations Evaluations | New York
Medical students and graduates seeking USMLE accommodations face one of the longest documentation timelines of any high-stakes exam. The NBME recommends allowing 3 to 6 months from the time you begin gathering documentation to your intended test date. A current, comprehensive psychological evaluation is typically required even if you have prior documentation from medical school or the MCAT. If you're a medical student in New York and think you may need accommodations, starting the conversation early is the most important thing you can do. Most evaluations take several weeks from intake to final report, depending on the exam and its documentation deadlines. Bar exam and NYLE applicants should plan around the specific filing deadlines set by the relevant board. MCAT and USMLE applicants should allow additional lead time given AAMC and NBME's longer recommended windows. I recommend starting the process as early as possible once you know accommodations may be needed.
